- BACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist & Qualified EMDR Therapist

A warm welcome. Whether you are experiencing a time of stress, trauma, loss, change, confusion, depression or heightened emotion counselling can offer crucial and timely support. Through my private practice, I offer short- or long-term counselling and psychotherapy to adults, children, young people, groups, families and organisations in Sussex and Hampshire.  I aim to provide effective, helpful, human support through a meaningful and trustworthy relationship, regardless of the length of therapy required, client group or personal history. My approach is integrative - calling on an exciting tapestry of well-known (e.g. person-centred) and contemporary theories (e.g. CBT, EMDR - see What is Counselling & Psychotherapy?) and is tailored to suit the client's need. This approach is underpinned by an aim to be empathic and non-judgemental towards the client whilst maintaining unconditional positive regard as I respectfully invite clients toward a person-centred, relationship-centred, professional and effective service. Please contact me, by telephone or email, if you have any questions about what you read here, or if you would like to talk or meet to discuss your personal requirements around one of the services I offer.

Paul Grixti BSc (Hons), Dip. Couns., MBACP (Accred.) UKRCP

Paul is a qualified and experienced counsellor & psychotherapist with rooms in Chichester (for West Sussex and Hants) and Brighton (for East Sussex). Therapy is provided in accordance with the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) Ethical Framework for Good Practice. Paul is a listed BACP Accredited therapist on the BACP website directory (www.bacp.co.uk then click "Find A Therapist UK"). Being accredited means that Paul Grixti's counselling practice has been deemed to meet the BACP standard for a "competent, ethical and independent practioner" and has been included on the UKRCP register. The UKRCP is a voluntary register of Counsellors/Psychotherapists held by BACP. Only UKRCP Registrants may have their details included on the UKRCP website. Find Paul Grixti on the Register by entering the BACP website, then clicking on "UKRCP" in the menu, then "Access the Register". Then enter my name, town or postcode.

“I am a fully qualified counsellor (Dip Couns; Cert Couns; EMDR Pts I-IV) seeing both adults and children. I am an accredited BACP practitioner and a UK registered counsellor/psychotherapist. I practice using a range of theories within the Humanistic umbrella including person-centred, Gestalt, existential, play, art, CBT and EMDR. I am an EMDR Association Trained Therapist (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).  I am insured with Towergate Professional Risks and receive regular supervision (BACP requirements for Good Practice) from two highly respected practitioners. I have been counselling for 8 years and, whilst seeing clients of all ages, I have specialized in counselling for children & young people and trauma therapy for adults. I wor only in private practice, having provided in-school counselling for "Your Space" West Sussex County Council, and managed school counselling services in West Sussex schools for several years. I am Lead Professional trained in the CAF (Common Assessment Framework) arena (see "Children [Services]" in the menu above). I also offer counselling and mentor support to students through a university contract. I facilitate non-directive developmental groups for both adults and young people and teach on specific issue courses e.g. anger issues, assertiveness, feelings. I also lecture and facilitate workshops for trainee therapists at another university”.

    A Male Counsellor

Male counsellors are sometimes preferred to female counsellors. Sometimes a female is preferred. Whilst there might be no discernable difference in their training or quality of experience, a client's initial feeling, no matter how slight, might make a crucial contribution to their therapy and ultimately, to their well-being. Therapist gender is just one important consideration when choosing a counsellor. In the very act of choosing a counsellor, you are noticing "What Is" and making choices from that place. When those choices are expressed through counsellor selection, therapy has already begun.
